The first message from the electronic mailing list run by Brother Charles Coutard was the
"wake up call" for many Saint Louis de Gonzague* (SLG) alumni living outside
of Haiti. Everyone was happily surprised to read from the school and our former
teachers. The concept of having an organized body of interested SLG alumni living abroad
quickly came up within the "Forum des Anciens de SLG", coincidentally set up a couple
of weeks prior to an alumni retreat in Haiti in March 2002.
It soon became obvious that many
individuals strongly wished to connect again through a nonprofit organization.
Guided by the desire of materializing such an idea, a core group thought of the most
useful and practical way to bring it to life. It was unanimous that helping with the education
sector in Haiti through FIC schools as well as other schools is the way to go, thus
the concept of a "foundation" was adopted. The first meeting was held on May
31, 2002. Shortly thereafter, the legal registration was promptly filed :
"The Saint-Louis de Gonzague Alumni Foundation" and "La Fondation des
Anciens de Saint-Louis de Gonzague" [Canada] were born.
These foundations are aiming at providing to
ALL a reliable channel to have a positive impact on Education in Haiti.
